An Introduction That Took Nearly Three Years
There is real fear in staring at a blank page. I’ve been staring at this one since October of 2020. I did a little online search and I can’t find which artist I need to attribute this to, but I want to say I heard it was Van Gogh. Supposedly, Van Gogh also faced this same fear. And in an effort to minimize the great-blank-monster before him he would make a giant mark through the center of his canvas just to mess it up on purpose. Of course, he would then paint over it and we are none the wiser.
Ladies & gentlemen, that is what this introductory post is. My giant mark through a very intimidating, empty blog.
When I first bought this domain two years and eight months ago, I did so because Marc and I were moving from Missouri to Montana, and I wanted to keep our families who were not on social media updated along the way. Not knowing how to set up a blog that wasn’t on Blogger, Xanga, or LiveJournal, I found a gal on Pinterest who had step by step instructions on how to set up my blog in a week… and what is that? Also make 6-figures? Okay, apparently now I’m also starting a business!
Fast forward to now and I finally realized that I was following instructions for a goal that wasn’t mine. I was getting hung up on steps like creating an email list, pop-ups, and free offerings. Would I love for this to one day be a little source of income? Absolutely, I think everyone should have more than one income – diversify, baby. But is that the goal right now? No, it’s not. I just want this blog live! So, I backpedaled a tad, removed the pop-ups from my site, and here we are.
Currently, it is 5:30am and I am watching a very cloudy morning appear over the Rocky Mountains in Southwest Montana. I did not get up at 5:30 on purpose because I’m some ambitious hustler. No no. I got up at 3am because I am 4 months pregnant and I had to pee and then realized I was starving. By 4am I knew I had to just give up and get out of bed. I grabbed my laptop and a book, headed to the kitchen for a bowl of Cap’n Crunch and here we are.
This is me, striking that blank page. We did it! (Maybe I’m going to try and go back to bed now…)
